    October 2000 - June 2001: Financial Editor, Insight Pacific (San Francisco)
    As financial editor for the US office of a Taiwan-based Internet startup I was responsible for turning daily analysis of the American stock market into web-based content for investors in Taiwan.

    February 2000 - August 2001: Web site manager, entrepreneur, www.boulderhealing.net (Boulder, Colorado)
    In 2000 I created and marketed my own internet startup promoting holistic health practitioners in Colorado.

    Summer 1999: Staff Writer, Beijing Scene Newspaper (Beijing)
    In the summer of 1999 I wrote for Beijing Scene, the first independently owned and operated weekly English-language newspaper to operate in communist China. As Staff Writer I was responsible for researching, conducting interviews and producing more than 3000 words of copy per week.

    September 1998 - June 1999: Compliance Inspector, California Safety Compliance Corporation (Greater China)
    As an agent for CSCC I inspected production facilities for major firms in the garment industry, uncovering and publicizing child labor, safety violations and human rights abuses in Taiwan, China and Hong Kong. My responsibilities included surprise inspections, reporting findings to clients and educating factory owners.

    August 1997 - August 1998: ESL Teacher, Course Creator, Freelance Writer (Taipei, Taiwan)
    I supplemented my Chinese language studies by teaching English and creating coursework for companies, schools and individuals in Taipei City. I also contributed features and travel stories to the China Post, the China News (now the Taiwan News) and Travel in Taiwan magazine.

    May 1996 - July 1997: Public Relations Writer, Web Designer Core Pacific Securities (Taipei, Taiwan)
    At Core Pacific I designed press releases and facilitated English communication for one of the largest securities firms in Taiwan. I also created the first version its English-language website.

    August 1994 - May 1996: Technical Editor, ESL instructor (Hsinchu, Taiwan)
    I spent my first 20 months in Asia teaching English, editing technical documents and creating ESL materials for schools and companies inside Hsinchu's Science Based Industrial Park. My employer was David's American English, a local language school.

  • Researched and wrote Penghu: In The Middle of Everywhere for the Penghu County (Taiwan) Tourism Board.
  • Researched, wrote and shot photographs for Chinese city guides on www.thingsasian.com.

  • Researched, wrote and shot photographs for the Fall 2004 issue of Destination Shenzhen, a 20-page color supplement (South China Morning Post).
  • Co-created and marketed www.yangshuo.biz (currently defunct,) a website promoting businesses in Yangshuo, a town in southern China heavily dependent on tourism.
